About Augmedics
Augmedics is a Chicago, Illinois-based medical technology company developing augmented reality surgical navigation systems. Their flagship product, the xvision Spine System, is the first FDA-approved augmented reality guidance system for surgery, providing surgeons with real-time 3D holographic visualization of patient anatomy during spine procedures. The xvision headset projects navigation data onto the surgeon's retina, accurately determining surgical tool positions and superimposing them on CT data—essentially giving surgeons "x-ray vision." FDA approved for open or percutaneous spine procedures from C3 to pelvis, xvision has consistently demonstrated 97-100% accuracy in pedicle screw placement across multiple clinical studies. In April 2025, the company completed its 10,000th augmented reality spine surgery, performed by Dr. Isaac L. Moss at UConn Health. The xvision system costs approximately 9,000 and helps surgeons accurately place implants without looking away from the operative table. Augmedics secured an .5 million Series D financing in 2023, one of the largest medtech raises that year. Investors are led by AO-Invest, the investment arm of the AO Foundation. The company was a finalist at TechCrunch Disrupt San Francisco 2017 Startup Battlefield.
