About Boxfish Robotics

Boxfish Robotics is an Auckland, New Zealand-based company that designs and manufactures cutting-edge underwater robotic vehicles and ROVs for ocean exploration, inspection, and filmmaking applications. Founded in 2016 by Ben King and Craig Anderson after a chance meeting at Lake Pupuke where three engineers were disappointed with the performance of existing ROV technology, the company has grown to a team of twelve with sales worldwide. Their flagship Boxfish ROV is an industry-leading observation class vehicle with intelligent fault-tolerant design, providing 4K live video from depths up to 1,000 meters and capable of precise positioning in heavy currents. The Boxfish Luna, launched in 2021, is the worlds first underwater drone designed specifically for high-end filmmaking, while the Boxfish Alpha serves asset inspection and light intervention needs. A major breakthrough is their Autonomous Resident Vehicle (ARV-i), a fully autonomous underwater drone that lives submerged long-term for continuous inspection work, recharging itself in an underwater dock. This technology was deployed in Scotland alongside a wave power generator for renewable energy monitoring. From powering renewable energy trials in Scotland to uncovering environmental crises in North America, Boxfish technology helps researchers, filmmakers, and industry professionals visualize and understand the underwater world in unprecedented ways. The company works with resellers in Japan, Malaysia, and the UK while maintaining all manufacturing, R&D, and warehousing at their Auckland headquarters.
