About Skip
Skip is a San Francisco, California-based wearable robotics company that spun out of Google X in 2023. Founded by Kathryn Zealand and Anna Roumiantseva, both motivated by loved ones whose lives were affected by mobility challenges, the company develops exoskeletons to help people starting to struggle with movement but not needing full bodyweight support. According to the CDC, 1 in 4 adults over age 45 face serious difficulty walking or climbing stairs. In partnership with outdoor gear company Arc'teryx, Skip created MO/GO (short for mountain goat)—described as the "world's first powered pants" and "an ebike for hiking." MO/GO is an exoskeleton integrated into a pair of technical pants weighing just seven pounds with all components, delivering a 40% boost to leg muscles when climbing uphill while supporting legs on descent. The battery-operated motor system uses sensor algorithms to identify when users are walking or climbing, responding with appropriate motion assistance. Machine learning enables the system to learn individual gaits for more natural feel over time. The battery lasts approximately three hours with swappable battery capability for longer ranges, and recharges automatically during downhill walking. To advance their technology, Skip partnered with Georgia Institute of Technology researchers, publishing results in Nature demonstrating how machine learning creates fluid, adaptable wearable exoskeletons. MO/GO is priced at ,500 with reservations available through the company website and shipments expected late 2025. The product represents a new category of consumer mobility assistance targeting active adults experiencing age-related mobility decline.
