About Zivid

Zivid is an Oslo, Norway-based machine vision technology company designing and selling 3D color cameras with vision software for autonomous industrial robot cells, collaborative robot cells, and other industrial automation systems. Founded by Henrik Schumann-Olsen and Øystein Skotheim as a spin-out from SINTEF, the company's concept was a "Kinect for Industry." Zivid cameras use structured light (fringe projection) technology—projecting defined grid patterns onto objects in white LED light, capturing distortion with 2D color image sensors, and merging multiple images to create full-color 3D point clouds. The Zivid One operates at 0.1mm resolution and 10Hz acquisition. The Zivid 2+ R-series addresses demanding robotic pick, place, and manipulation applications in e-commerce, logistics, and manufacturing with 3x speed improvement capturing true-to-reality point clouds on shiny and transparent objects in under 150 milliseconds. Zivid 3 features laser-based next-generation structured-light technology with thermal stabilization for stability against ambient light and temperature swings while remaining eye safe. Applications include de-palletizing, bin-picking, pick-and-place, assembly, packaging, and quality control. Awards include "Top Innovation Award" (inVISION Magazine), "Gold Innovators Award" (Vision Systems Design), Red Dot "Product Design" award, and Research Council of Norway "Innovation Award."
